As someone who has struggled with acne (now the occasional pimples) for what feels like forever, I can confidently say I’ve tried everything. From splurging on high-end serums to DIY concoctions that included ingredients I won’t even admit to putting on my face, my skincare journey has been a rollercoaster!
But what I’ve learnt in my time is that products can only take you so far, but the tools you choose? They’re the ones that can completely elevate your skin game. And after a lot (and I mean a lot) of trial and error, I’ve finally found THE ultimate skincare tools that have become a staple in my routine, changing my skin from a war-zone to something that resembles a little more calm. Here I’m sharing them in the hopes they can do the same for you.

1. Tap and shower water filter
Let me tell you, switching to a water filter for both my tap and shower was like hitting the refresh button on my skin (and hair). I used to think my cleansers and moisturizers weren’t 100% doing their job, but it turned out the water itself was part of the problem! Hard water, loaded with minerals, was drying out my skin and leaving it irritated and dull. Once I installed filters, everything changed.
The water feels softer and gentler now, and my skin actually holds onto moisture better. I’ve even noticed fewer breakouts, and less tightness and redness. Honestly, I didn’t realize how much of an impact purified water could have until I tried it. It’s one of those little tweaks that makes a huge difference. Now, I can’t imagine my skincare routine without it.
Why does it work so well?
By removing harsh minerals, chlorine, and other impurities, filtered water is much gentler on your skin. It helps maintain your skin’s natural pH balance, reduces irritation, and allows your skincare products to absorb more effectively. Basically, it gives your skin a fighting chance to heal, hydrate, and glow the way it was meant to.
Water filters do I use?
For my bathroom sink tap I use the Filterbaby Skincare Filter 2.0 and for my shower head the Kitsch Shower Filter, both are easy to install and the filters should usually be changed every 3 months. Trust me when I say, when it’s time to change them, the grime build up the filters catch is just … eww!
2. Disposable facial cloths
I’ll admit it—I used to reuse the same washcloth for days, thinking a quick rinse was enough to keep it clean. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. Traditional washcloths can trap bacteria, oil, and leftover makeup, which can lead to breakouts and irritation. That’s when I switched to disposable facial cloths, and honestly, I haven’t looked back since.
These single-use, ultra-soft cloths feel luxurious on the skin and keep things hygienic. They’re perfect for sensitive, acne-prone skin (like mine) because there’s no risk of spreading bacteria. Plus, they’re a total game-changer for travel or post-workout refreshes when you don’t want to carry around a damp washcloth.
Now, I never have to worry about hidden germs undoing all the hard work I put into my skincare routine. FYI, the Clean Skin Club Towels I use are extra large and I’ve found sometimes I don’t need the full cloth. If that’s the case with you, cut them in half, one for the morning and one for the evening, that way they last twice as long!
3. A satin pillow case
I used to wake up with weird sleep lines on my face, thinking it was just a normal part of life. Turns out, my cotton pillowcase was doing more harm than I realized!
Cotton can be rough on your skin, creating friction that leads to irritation, creases, and even premature wrinkles. But once I switched to satin pillowcases, I noticed a difference almost immediately—no more face creases, less irritation, and my nighttime skincare products actually stayed on my skin instead of being absorbed into my pillow.
Honestly, this swap is one of the easiest skincare hacks that feels almost too good to be true. And, just to add, it’s so much better for your hair too—fewer tangles and less frizz, anyone?
4. Heat Sonic facial cleanser
For the longest time, I thought washing my face with just my hands was enough. But once I introduced my trusty heat sonic facial cleanser into my routine, I realized I had been seriously missing out.
This little device uses thermal cleansing to open pores to lift away dirt, excess oil, pollutants, and makeup that your fingers just can’t reach. It also has 6 customizable vibration modes for either every day gentle cleansing or a deep exfoliation giving you that ultra-deep clean feeling without being harsh on your skin.
At first, I was worried it might be too intense, but I quickly fell in love with how soft and refreshed my skin felt after each use. It really helped unclog my pores, and allow my skincare products to absorb much better, leaving my skin looking brighter and feeling smoother. Now, I can’t imagine cleansing without it—my skin just doesn’t feel as clean when I skip it!
